Tangerine Dream "the sessions I" vinyl record 2018

Tangerine Dream – the sessions I – VII

It’s been quite a long time now that I wanted to start a series of short articles on music that I really like to listen to. Many albums had been chosen already but I’d like to start with Tangerine Dream‘s current releases as this project exists since 1967 and TD are pioneers in electronic music well respected by their fans and other musicians from all over the world.

Since the sudden death of Edgar Froese in 2015 TD now are a trio with musicians from Germany and Japan namely

Thorsten Quaeschning – keyboards, guitar, drums
Hoshiko Yamane – violin/viola, cello, ableton push, looper, effect pedals
Paul Frick – keyboards

Since 2015 Thorsten Quaeschning is, as the chosen successor of Edgar Froese, what you could call the musical director of TD and together with Paul Frick and Hoshiko Yamane these three continue to let the dreams of Froese live.

In 2018 the first album of “the sessions” had been released on vinyl and when I listened to it for the first time I was more than positively astonished. I even got goosebumps when I heard Hoshiko play her (electric) violin – this was such a great addition to the heavily sequencer / synthesizer dominated sound.
To be honest I never really loved any other release of TD that much since I listened to “Zeit“, “Ricochet“, “Phaedra“, “Rubycon” or “Stratosfear” to name just a few of the real classics Tangerine Dream have produced in the last 5 centuries.

Over the last two days I have listened to all “the sessions” releases in numerical order and I found all of these to be worth to listen too – every minute of their music is magical – … for sure I will not listen these only once but many times in the near future 🙂
